Who Are We?
Presbyterian Church (USA)

Round Rock Presbyterian Church is a union church of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Presbyterians in Round Rock, Our History...

Our Presbyterian roots go deep in the history of central Texas and Williamson county area. Presbyterians first formed a church in Round Rock in 1854, but the county seat moved to Georgetown and the Presbyterians moved with it.

Around 1881, Presbyterians not only formed a church in Round Rock, they established a secondary school, Round Rock Institute. The Presbyterian Church, then a Cumberland Presbyterian Church, dissolved in the 1920's and Presbytery sold the building to the First Baptist Church where it can still be seen today at 306 Round Rock Avenue.

In 1980 Presbyterians began to plan a new Presbyterian Church in Round Rock. The first worship service took place on World Communion Sunday, October 1984, at the Round Rock High School.

In April 1985 commissioners from Mission Presbytery and South Texas Presbytery organized the Round Rock Presbyterian Church with 155 present in worship. The new congregation had 132 charter members.

In April 1986, Mission Presbytery, with cooperation from South Texas Presbytery purchased the present church site at 4010 Sam Bass Road . Worship services continued at the high school until completion of the present structure in November, 1988. In May of 1995 the church purchased four more acres of land immediately adjacent to its western boundary from Mission Presbytery, bringing its present acreage to almost nine acres of property. With the rapid growth the congregation has experienced in recent years, plans are to use this additional acreage for a new sanctuary and expanded education and fellowship space.

With consistent steady growth, we expanded to two morning worship services in May 1994. In early 1998 our second service was full to capacity at 200. A Building Committee was formed and we chose an architect firm in the fall. By the end of 1999, a new master plan was accepted by the congregation and a Capital Campaign was completed to fund our new sanctuary.

The year 2001 marked a substantial undertaking for this congregation. In February we held an official groundbreaking for our much anticipated new sanctuary. Construction began in earnest in early April 2001. The new sanctuary marks a significant event for Round Rock Presbyterian Church’s history and we look forward to the increased space and mission initiatives that will be afforded within its gracious and inviting space.

Round Rock Presbyterian Church's new 6500 square foot building has a 65-foot tall rock tower and steeple with a cross at pinnacle. The rock and stucco exterior is in the Hill-Country style with attractive, indigenous plants and shrubs gracing the landscape. The Centrum, which seats 306, soars to a 45 foot vaulted, wood ceiling with front windows opening on a wooded area. The chancel area has a vaulted arch, outlined in natural wood with a native stone background. A 12x7 foot cross is integrated into the stone with a beautiful stained glass motif in a Celtic design covering the transept of the cross.

The new sanctuary opened for its first worship service on April 14, 2002 and what a tremendous feeling it truly was. Our new sanctuary is a jewel and is certainly aesthetically welcoming and wonderfully worshipful. Although our first Sunday in new space was incredible, it nevertheless was different and definitely a huge change from the Centrum where this congregation has worshipped since 1988. As we encountered new space for the first time as a worshipping community, we were powerfully reminded that change is on the way for our church family.

Round Rock Presbyterian Church has gladly served the Round Rock community for twenty years. The church supports many local community ministries including Round Rock Caregivers, Round Rock Area Serving Center, and Round Rock Volunteer Center. In addition the church currently offers space and support to the Brushy Creek Serenity Club, a chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous, Freedom to Recover Alanon Group,  American College of Musicians/National Guild of Piano, Mom's Club (East) and proudly sponsors Boy Scout Troop 365, Cub Scout Packs 165 and 365, Girl Scout Troops 244 and 500, Brownie Troops 780 and 879 and Daisy Troop 457.

Round Rock Presbyterian Church continues its history of service to its members and this community as the church seeks to be faithful to its Lord Jesus Christ and searches for ways to promote the grace and goodness of Christ for all people and society.
