Guidelines for Weddings

A Christian wedding is an act of worship whereby a man and a woman are joined in holy matrimony, which is instituted by God, regulated by God’s commandments, blessed by our Lord Jesus Christ, and to be held in honor by everyone. The Session of the Round Rock Presbyterian Church wishes to assist you in making your wedding a worship experience that will be most meaningful and will live always in your memory. To that end the Round Rock Presbyterian Church is happy to offer its services and facilities to its members and to non-members, in accordance with the policy stated here, subject to the approval of the Session, and in consultation with the pastor.

Scheduling
Persons desiring to have their wedding in the facilities of the Round Rock Presbyterian Church should contact the church office as early as possible, to ensure that availability of the building and the services of the pastor. If possible a minimum of two months is recommended. The administrator has reservation forms and will be glad to assist you.

Preparation for the Wedding
The pastor will work with the couple, giving premarital counseling and discussing the wedding service. It will be necessary to schedule a minimum of four counseling sessions in order to plan the wedding as well as seriously discuss the marriage relationship. Couples wishing to have a guest minister officiate at the wedding should make that request to our current pastor while making plans for the wedding. Guest pastors must be invited by the pastor, or in the absence of the pastor, by the Session. The marriage license must be delivered to the pastor before the wedding.

Music
All music for the wedding must be suitable for a Christian service of worship. Since the wedding is a worship service, we strongly recommend that the congregation be allowed to participate through the singing of hymns.

If available, the church pianist may be contacted to play for weddings. Questions with regard to the suitability of music may be referred to the pianist and/or pastor.

Rehearsal
The rehearsal for the wedding will be directed by the pastor and should be scheduled when reserving the church for the wedding.

Decorations
Decorations should be appropriate for Christian worship and every precaution should be taken to prevent damaging furniture, floor, and walls. Plastic sheets should be placed under all candles to protect furniture or carpet from drippings. No tape, tacks, pins, nails, or glue may be used to fasten decorations.

The Lord’s Table, Baptismal Font, and Pulpit are integral and essential parts of reformed worship and should remain visible at the front of the worship space.

Family members must be responsible for arranging for florist decorating and meeting any deliveries at the church building.

Flowers may be left for other worship services only with pre-arrangement.

Photography
No photographs, movies, or video photography, which requires flash or special lighting, shall be taken during the worship service. Silent lens cameras may be used or videos may be made from the rear of the worship area. Photographers and camera operator should remain as inconspicuous as possible. The families of the bride and groom should assume the responsibility for informing anyone who plans to take pictures concerning the policy of the church with regard to photographs.

Reception
Church facilities are available for wedding receptions. However, decorations, refreshments, flatware, crystal, serving pieces, china, and music are the responsibility of the host couple.

Departure
Only birdseed may be thrown outside the building when the couple departs.
